Celebrate the 45th year of the AAUW Hendersonville Branch!
For the next year we’ll be celebrating 45 years of advancing gender equity in education and workplaces in our community. We’re proud of how we’ve supported women and girls through education, scholarships, and public policy initiatives.
In its first decade, the branch sponsored Junior Achievement in the local schools, studied emerging technologies such as the home computer, and co-sponsored the Council on the Status of Women.
The next decade saw us present a sexual harassment workshop and a career day in the public schools and, with the Friends of the Library, a program on the 75th Anniversary of women’s suffrage. The National Women’s History Project awarded the branch a “Write Women Back into History” Award.
In the 90’s the branch distinguished itself as a strong contributor to AAUW’s Legal Advocacy Fund which protects the legal rights of women who face discrimination in higher education and the workplace. We also generously supported AAUW’s Fellowships and Grants Programs including Career Development and Community Action Grants.
In 2018, the Hendersonville Branch created an Endowment Fund at Blue Ridge Community College to support women students whose goals are to pursue a four-year degree. This fund supports annual scholarships in perpetuity.
We celebrate our contributions to AAUW, its members and our community. But our work isn’t done. Your membership makes our powerful voice even stronger on critical issues affecting women and girls.
We look forward to an exciting year and celebrating this branch anniversary milestone!
